Tips for a more environmental friendly summer from SERVPRO of Wheaton/Kensington

Wording that reads "Go green" Let's preserve our environment!

In our beautiful state of Maryland, we have the privilege to get the best of all seasons. As we look forward to the warm summer days ahead, lets remember that our environment depends on us to keep it thriving. Sounds like a huge responsibility, well, it is. Here are a few tips/suggestions that you can implement for a more environmentally friendly summer season.

  1. Reuse or recycle: Instead of trashing the food containers in which your yummy lunch came, reuse them the next time you pack lunch. This can help you save money on purchasing food containers. If you truly do not need them, place them in the recycling bin.
  2. Smart home:In today’s day and age, we are lucky to have the technology to help with our daily struggles. Smart home technology is one that can not only make your life easier but can also help the environment. Programmable smart home thermostats can be used as a tool to help you adjust the temperature in your home while you are out, this helps you regulate your energy consumption.
  3. Avoid disposables: Planning a party or picnic this summer? Try to avoid using disposable plates, cups, forks, knives, etc. Though it may be easier to use these products, you leave a larger environmental footprint in your path. Consider using compostable disposable plates, wooden utensils, and silicone cups.
  4. A natural resource:This summer, if you are able, choose to use the sun as a natural resource by drying your clothes outdoors. Using an outdoor clothesline can help by disinfecting your clothes naturally, and by reducing your energy consumption.
  5. Different means of transportation:Reduce the carbon footprint by commuting differently. One way is biking, this is not only helpful for the environment but also for your health. Another way is by commuting through public transportation, or the bus.

We hope you have found these tips helpful. We wish our community a safe and healthy summer of 2021. Remember that your community partner, SERVPRO of Wheaton/Kensington is always here to help!
